Beyond the War: 2024 at Rambam

Publication Date:

Rambam Health Care Campus (Rambam) in Haifa, Israel, is Northern Israel’s major referral center. In 2024, the hospital faced unique challenges: a significant increase in traumatic injuries and patient care under extraordinary conditions while contending with hundreds of staff called to reserve duty and persistent air raid sirens.

Rambam is committed to delivering the highest level of medical care. Upon instruction, the hospital relocated to its fortified underground emergency facility, maintaining full medical services. Women gave birth, surgeries were performed, and the emergency room and intensive care units operated beyond their usual capacities.

Since the Swords of Iron war began, Rambam has treated 869 victims of war—soldiers and civilians—including highly complex cases from the frontlines. Of these, 256 patients were hospitalized, with 10 percent in critical condition—more than any other medical center in Israel.

Hospital emergency rooms across the country faced enormous strain, including at Rambam. The hospital’s Green-Wagner Department of Emergency Medicine treated 158,939 patients, an average of 450 patients daily. Between January and November, the hospital treated more than 300 criminal gunshot and stabbing victims.

Despite the stresses of war, patient care at Rambam continued uninterrupted, performing174,872 X-rays,83,468 CT scans, over 21,310 ultrasound exams, and some 2,465 life-saving catheterization procedures. These numbers reflect just a fraction of Rambam’s vast operations. With a staff of 6,500 dedicated professionals from diverse sectors, the hospital continues to meet the growing medical needs of Northern Israel’s population.

Aboveground and underground, Rambam also experienced moments of hope and joy welcoming 4,344 babies into the world. We pray for peace and that the future of these precious new lives will be filled with peace, happiness and prosperity.
