Professor Yitzhak Schiller is Deputy Director of the Neurology Department and Director of the Epilepsy Service at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Prof. Schiller earned his MD and PhD degrees at the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. His PhD, performed under the supervision of Professor Rami Rahamimoff, concentrated on the mechanisms underlying diabetic neuropathy. He completed his residency in neurology at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. After completing his residency, Prof. Schiller spent 3 years at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research as a post doctoral fellow in basic neuroscience research, where he studied dendritic computational mechanisms, and epileptogenesis under the supervision of Professor Bert Sakmann. Later he completed a two-year fellowship in EEG and epilepsy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Upon completion of his fellowship, Prof. Schiller joined the Department of Neurology at Rambam.
Prof Schiller is an Associate Professor at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, where he heads the Laboratory for Epilepsy Research. His main research interests are neural network computations, information processing in the motor cortex and basal ganglia, mechanisms underlying ictogenesis in epilepsy, and development of novel neurostimulators and chemo-genetic based treatments for intractable epilepsy.
Prof. Schiller is an author of more than 20 peer-reviewed articles, some published in the most prestigious journals in the field, and is serving as a reviewer for scientific journals in neurology and basic neuroscience.
